It is home of the Baining Fire dancers and the Tolai Tubuan society.
Every July the national mask festival occurs here. Check it out here
East New Britain is rich in culture, WWII history and stories of volcanoes. Take a half day or full day tour of some of the sites steeped in the history that has shaped the East New Britain of today. Your guide will regale you with stories of the Rabaul that once was the most promising Town of PNG and highlight the destruction and devastation experienced by the Rabaul township as you drive down Mango Avenue and the old Rabaul Airport... Kokopo, the new town, boasts the best market in PNG and a fantastic museum of salvaged WWII military relics and its very own crocodile
The capital township, Rabaul, was built up from a mangrove swamp by the Germans, who introduced coconut plantations as a major cash crop and export. It came under British rule after WWI and then was held captive by Japan in WWII as a vital control
centre for many of the attacks across the Pacific. Today the town survives in the presence of one of natures most destructive forces — Tavurvur Volcano.
Take your pick from white sandy beaches on remote uninhabited islands to WWII history or an erupting volcano, a rich vibrant and very active culture and an ocean full of Mother Nature's finest secrets.

MT TARVURVUR VOLCANO TREK
Treks take 2 to 3 hours and start early in the morning, and can be added on to half and full day land tours. Walking past the hot springs and up the slopes of cooled lava, can be quite challenging when the sun is out, hence the need for an early start. From the top, the views of Blanche Bay are impressive, as is the view into the crater of this active volcano.
